Htc Touch Hd Wm6.5 Wwe Firmware[rom]

Hey people,It's my first post so go easy.I'm looking at getting a new phone and it's petty much a straight choice between these two handsets. I'm pretty undecided but hoping some of you guys could maybe shed some light. I know the touch has a larger screen but is the firmware in the diamond 2 any better (with it being newer)? If it's the same then it's a no-brainer (big screen woooo). Also I'll be getting it on T-mobile but in a year I'm probably leaving the country for a while and would like to still use this.

Are these phones on T mobile sent unlocked or will I have to fiddle about to unlock it myself? Many thanks. What are your priorities? What is it that the phone has to do that's more important than anything else?I've just recently bought a Touch HD, after cancelling my pre-order for the Diamond 2. The reason I did this is I use the phone for web browsing a fair bit and the extra screen size is invaluable. The resolution is exactly the same, but a high resolution on a smaller screen makes it uncomfortable to view and navigate.

And since the resistive touch screens of these devices are not as finger friendly as the likes of the iPhone, the extra size makes the world of difference.I also have a Sony Ericsson X1i, which also shares the same resolution but a smaller screen than the Diamond 2, and I simply don't use it for web browsing, it's not an easy task, text is too small and the stylus must be used for the vast majority of tasks. That aside, the Diamond 2 firmware is newer than the Touch HD. But there are numerous options around for getting the same firmware onto the HD, just check out the XDA Developers forum for info. Hopefully HTC will release another HD ROM update that contains the new features anyway. For me, the HD is the best Windows Mobile device around.

WM isn't a great OS for finger prodding touch screen use, but the extra screen size remedies this. What are your priorities? I bought mine for just over £500 and then three popped up on this forum for sale!I use mine for maps too, something you mentioned was key, and it's superb!

Really helped me get around Glasgow the last time I was up there, as Google maps, a decent signal and a big screen make it easy to see where I am in relation to what's around me, all very clearly.Being Windows Mobile it's not perfect, but there is nothing you cannot make a WM phone do! I looked at the Diamond 2 and Touch HD together for the first time in real life today, previously only seeing them in separation. The Diamond 2 is not that much smaller than the HD. It's narrower, but not by that much and the hight and thickness is pretty much the same, with the HD feeling thinner. But the Diamond 2 has the zoom bar at the bottom which eats into the screen space. Combine this with the narrower chassis and the screen real estate is quite a lot smaller, too small for extended periods of web browsing without having to zoom right in, that's for sure.Quite glad I cancelled my pre-order for the Diamond 2 now.

Good reviews and comparison videos there! It's interesting though and shows the importance of matching the choice of phone to what you actually want to do with it. The comparison vid claimed the TD2 was better as it was smaller, cheaper and would have a free upgrade to WM6.5.

In reality the price is a fair point, but the smaller size is detrimental to it's use as a web browser and media (video) playback device and the HD is already running WM6.5 if you want it, via any number of custom ROM's.But then if you aren't bothered about web browsing and don't often watch videos for any length of time, the TD2 is a fantastic choice of device, one of the best around at the moment.Horses for courses really. Pick the one that suits your needs and neither will disappoint.
